A Dream Is Made

A Dream Is Made

It began in Oklahoma. Oh what fun we had!

I got "bit by the bug" and I got bit bad!

My search was on to find the right mare.

She had to be special, with quality so rare. She had to be pretty, correct, and able to win,

With pedigree to reflect only the best of her kin.

-

I called every ad that showed promise, but none measured up.

Until I saw this chestnut, and she made my heart thump!

Her name was Magnificoos Echo and she sure had the look.

So negotiations began, and I closed that horse book.

She'd won Scottsdale, and Open, and Amateur, too.

With credentials like that what else could I do?

-

She arrived in July; my new show horse supreme,

Oh, what a shock, this wasn't my dream!

Her coat wasn't shiny, and she was way, way too thin.

I took a deep breath, as you took it all in! I

knew from that moment, by the look in your eye,

You saw something special, so I bid her goodbye.

-

You took that mare, and you made her bloom.

I knew you could do it, and we went to the moon.

It hasn't been easy. I never said that.

We were brought back to earth, in no time flat!

A lesson I needed; stay focused, dear Gail,

And thanks to Miss Jackie, you got knocked on your tail!

-

I questioned the purchase; you stayed steadfast and true.

You believed in your mare, and Chantelle worked on me, too!

We all worked harder, and continued our plight, A

Top 5 victory was part of our fight!

Regionals was great. Can it get any better?

Yes, but my requests just made you get redder!

-

"You want her in foal? You've got to be kidding!"

"You're asking too much, and it's just not fitting!"

They cancelled the flight; it was shipped Federal Express,

By the time it got here, the egg was amiss!

But the sonogram proved this was sure meant to be,

For I hear that foal yelling, "I want to be me!"

-

Just one more mountain, Dennis. Oh, please, please just try!

The toughest of all, and I just don't know why.

Maggie doesn't like riding. We know this is true.

Just get her through it; any color will do,

But fifty percent must be left on the rail.

Talk to me Dennis, you look awfully pale!

-

So it's off to Sweetwater in the sweltering heat.

The truck overheated. You called on St. Pete!

You believed in your mare and came home with a yellow.

An incredible feat. A remarkable fellow.

It's a ribbon I cherish and treasure, it's true.

Did you do it for her, for me, or for you?

-

So it's on to Louisville to fulfill the dream.

"Thank you, God, for giving me this team.

They've worked so hard, and she looks oh, so right,

But I know me Lord, and I'll suffer stage fright!"

I heard a voice within me say, "Be anxious for nothing..." and I was on my way.

A spiritual feeling I cannot explain. Implanted in heart and there it will stay.

-

Nationals was something no words will explain.

Our tears of joy were like blessings of rain.

Your were with me in the ring. I know you were there.

And with Chantelle on the rail, I had not a care.

A Top 10 award with blessing from above,

Truly this is what, OUR DREAM WAS MADE OF!

-

We thank you, and we love you.
